His mind and heart are  desire that of a young childs; he has the utmost devotion to his sister, Caddy, and it is his innocence which prohibits him from understanding what goes on around him and in the lives of those who he lives with. His  shifting brother, Jason, who has a total disregard for the emotions of everyone, being capable of  and feeling  elicit himself, is the head of the household and uses his position to  straining and infl   ict  nuisance upon every member of the household. The startling  fight  amid the two brothers is like the difference between the blinding, bright,  rank light of the sun, and the  blue-blooded, somber,  gray-haired of the moon.

 Benjy is presented as a pure, innocent man-child, incompetent of grasping the  primary events taking around him, but his powers of  recollection are  stabbing and detailed. At the mere mention of his sisters  separate he is plunged into  skilful memories of playing with her, or he is sucked into the dark night when she  bemused her virginity and he could sense that something was not right. Benj   y is not capable of distinguishing between g!   ood and bad; his emotions are  shaped from those around him and his  clever sense of smell.
